sean penn can die tbh

here it is, part 2!! i found even more junk on skype from my Dashcon committee head days. If you have no idea what Dashcon is or just need a rundown on how it started, please read my previous post, because this is a continuation. Ahead are lots of skype screenshots and this post is pretty long in general. very picture heavy. dont read if you don’t have time on your hands, mate. Read on if you wanna learn more about how this trainwreck of a convention began!:

If you read my other post, which you should have bc otherwise u won’t understand this one, you’d know that the Dashcon admins had instructed each committee to give a short list of 2 guests they would want to bring to the con. They didn’t give any rules, we were simply ordered to submit people. That went about as well as one could reasonably expect. By the way, initially everyone had been told that each committee would be getting its own room for activities and the like. being a (newly-turned) 18 yr old and never having been to a con at this point, i didn’t know that this idea was 100% NOT FEASIBLE. i guess many others were the same way since no one raised any questions about it. also we were all a bunch of teenagers. I was with these guys until April 2013 btw.

The following is a skype chat with most of the heads of the committees, me included.

image

image

that’s me in the blue. by “fandoms” what I meant was the shipping subfandoms in the Teen Wolf fandom itself.

image

There was even bias WITHIN each committee. In this case the Teen Wolf head was a huge Sterek fan, hence their choice of guests. also: ???? why did the admins allows us to believe that we could bring actors like Dylan and Tyler? fucking bonkers.

image

I’m sure it was, Magenta.

image

this is the same conversation. we moved on to talk about raising money. The admins had told Green that the money each committee raised would be going to another committee if we couldn’t afford to bring at least one of our preferred guests. at the top i’m repeating what Green had already told me. I was surprised, as was Brown, because that would mean we’d be left with NOTHING. Not even money for our panels.

image

Green then tells us we only get a booth even though earlier the admins had said ROOMS. Each committee gets a room. Apparently not!!

image

basically a bunch of confused committee heads trying to figure out what the admins wanted. A lot of the problems came from admins not communicating with us. Everyone had to find out everything through someone else who may or may not have talked to an admin.

image

level playing field! EVERYONE GETS A BOOTH! despite the fact that we only care about the Superwholock/Teen Wolf committees!!

we then began to talk about ideas for panels.

image

“at some point” is right. Everything was supposed to be done “at some point”. Not like the admins ever told us when they wanted shit unless it had to do with money deadlines.

image

I learned this from Green as well. Apparently the admins weren’t even getting along and couldnt decide on a fixed way to run things. Not surprising.

image

WELL HE WAS SURE AS HELL RIGHT ABOUT THAT LMAO

The Sherlock committee head then jumped in to say this:

image

GOOD LUCK WITH THAT.

image

image

image

image

this was a typical meeting among the heads. trying to figure shit out the entire time as well as setting unrealistic goals. And the admins encouraged this.

By the way, this is how i became a committee head. This is how everyone became a committee head:

image

how young i was!

Typical interaction with a mod:

image

image

Typical summons to a meeting:

image

so professional!

image

“see you tomorrow! by the way, fuck you! :)”

and a typical conversation between committee members about the oh so helpful mods!!! since the mods would sometimes accuse members of ganging up on them just because we would ask lots of questions and voice our opinions on their bullshit.

image

image

this was addressing a comment Roxanne made about the committees not being individual entities of the con despite the fact that THE ADMINS HAD BEEN TREATING US LIKE THAT THE ENTIRE TIME. we weren’t unified in the least. we were basically little islands in the sea that was Dashcon, trying to scrape up money for them as fast as possible.

image

image

This is me talking on tumblr to the same committee member:

image

image

hmm. interesting

image

i now feel bad for making her stay longer, but then again i was blinded.

here’s me talking to Megg, one of the future co-owners, aka one of the people who started off on my committee. I should have noticed while I was venting to her about the situation, but she was being really quiet about it. at this point, I think she was already getting in with the admins and didnt wanna say anything that would harm their budding relationship. im the blue as usual.

(truthfully they probably woulda been fine with a booth but i was young and foolish)

Megg then began to tell me about her woes with the Sherlock committee. she was in my committee and the Sherlock committee at the same time.

maybe next time dont have literal 13 year olds doing your bidding

also, the Sherlock committee was supposedly going to represent all the versions of Sherlock. original ACD books, RDJ version, BBC version, Elementary. literally days after the Sherlock committee’s tumblr was created, some fuckheads on anon started complaining about how the committee should represent only the BBC version because it was the “best version”. it was a big mess

after that….

look at how WELL this was run. truly incredible.

FUN INDEED!! the so-called “big 3” did nothing and the con was a disaster. I CALLED IT FIRST

HOLD ONTO YOUR HOOVES [sidenote: i was not in the MLP committee. im not sure what happened to them but like many others they were probably dissolved]

mm. its almost like nobody had any idea what the fuck they were doing, haha!! the admins wanted us to list all the artists we had for the auction in a spreadsheet, but hardly anyone had legit artists that knew the terms of the arrangement. they only had vaguely interested ones.

huh. sure

this coming from a soon-to-be co-owner. lovely!!

which reminds me, we couldnt even tell the interested artists the dates for the auctions when we were asking for their participation. BECAUSE WE DIDN’T FUCKING KNOW THEM.

and this goes to show how much the admins switched up:

ALSO! one of the mods decided to contact two actors from my fandom’s show without telling me first. incredible:

then the mods demanded that each committee put together promo pictures. except that most of the heads didn’t hear it from the mods themselves, they heard from OTHER HEADS.

weird. very weird, like many other things happening with this convention.

Then:

At the beginning, while the con was establishing committees, they said there had to be at least one person in the committee over 18. so this would have been a violation of that.

AND. THEN

and just like that you could become an admin despite not knowing what you’re doing!! coolio.

AND HERE’S A REALLY COOL THING!! LITERALLY PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU DONT READ ANYTHING ELSE IN THIS POST:

image

image

WRONG. the admins had agreed to give artists a portion of the proceeds from their auctioned off work if they wanted it. for them to suddenly backtrack like this was motivated by greed. they weren’t letting the artists know that this was an option, which is why many of them ended up giving art for free. or not doing it at all.

what a bunch of entitled shitheads, am i right? IT GETS BETTER. co-owner Roxanne joins the convo to add some insight!!

image

image

image

image

like anyone would attend your shitshow of a convention, Rox!!

and then this:

image

image

one of the admins cut off a committee member. this kind of thing happened more often than should be appropriate. another reason there should have been a screening method for members.

and finally:

image

image

what???? okay, Rox, super clear.

if you ask me, this whole thing was an excuse to wank over bad white actors and cry over a bunch of irrelevant male pairings. practically all of the mods and many of the members were fetishists and were only doing this so that they could see even more of their fave white men getting it on. and to pick up some sweet fanmerch, hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!! god. [sidenote: there’s nothing wrong with loving shitty white actors. embrace it if you do, just as i embrace the fact that i love some shitty anime characters. but when you take your love to the level of these guys, you know what you get?? a deflated ball pit and a missing $17,000. also, dont fetishize. xoxo]

also for shits and gigs:

image

alright.

by the way, i don’t think people are getting their money back. that $17,000 is long gone in my opinion. these teaboos couldn’t run a dunk tank, much less a CONVENTION.

tldr?: fuck Dashcon and its shitty management. if you can call it management. someone driving a truck blindfolded would have more luck.

PART 3, IF YOU CAN HANDLE IT
